December 2006

Dear Reader,

When a year is reaching its end it is a typical moment for looking back and reflection. This year was a year with many milestones for AELS. Milestones like the founding of AELS and the first projects. We are very pleased with the results and we hope we can continue offering the same high quality to our clients in the years to come. Very much thanks to, everybody who made it all, and will make it all possible.

Some exciting projects for next year, will be, the development of two base dismantling locations. For the European market this will be within the 'Maintenance Boulevard' concept, of which you can read more below. We also expect to sign a MOU early January to be able to offer dismantling services for the North-American market. This will make AELS the first aircraft dismantling company offering its services on two continents.

Below you can read some other news of the last two months.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, click here for our season greetings.

Maintenance Boulevard

Last month the 'Maintenance Boulevard' feasibility study has been concluded. The study was executed by the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG) in cooperation with 12 companies. All the companies are active in the aviation MRO market of which AELS is one.

The study concluded that there are serious opportunities in developing the maintenance boulevard concept. The concept comprehends a close cooperation of all kind of MRO activities to lower downtime of the aircraft while sustaining the highest possible quality standard. Some of the activities are bounded to an airfield, such as the services of AELS. Part of the study therefore also aimed at the selection of an airfield. Maastricht Aachen Airport was proven to be the best location.

NVvL Award

The prestigious NVvL graduation award of the year 2006 is awarded to Derk-Jan van Heerden for his master thesis with the title: End-of-Life Aircraft: How to deal with old aircraft withdrawn from service. This report formed the basis of AELS’ unique End-of-Life Decision Tool. The result of this tool is now offered to aircraft owners all over the world in the End-of-Life Decision Report. The award was handed out during a ceremony November 23rd, 2006. The main criteria for the award are scientific value, innovative character and industry relevance.

The NVvL (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Luchtvaarttechniek, Netherlands Association of Aeronautical Engineers) is the Dutch counter part of other aerospace societies like the famous British Royal Aeronautical Society.

AELS in the news

Two interviews were published this month in Dutch magazines. The first was published in 'Technisch Weekblad', which is published weekly for Dutch engineers. The second was published in 'Op de Bok' a monthly magazine for the Vereniging van Nederlandse Verkeersvliegers (VNV, Dutch Pilot Association).
