April 2007
Dear Reader, Last month AELS acquired its first certification. AELS is now a certified apprenticeship employer. Also a conference paper was published in the scientific community on the issue of extended producer responsibility in the aviation sector, a subject that will be in the spotlight the coming years. Legislation in the aerospace industry will follow after the automotive and household appliances industry. Also AELS contributed to an article in the ATE&M magazine. You can read more about these items below in this newsletter. Next to this the Paris Air Show is about to start in a few weeks. AELS will be exhibiting there. You're welcome to drop by. Best regards, The AELS Team Paris Air Show
On Monday June 18, 2007 the 47th Paris Air Show will start. AELS will, of course, be part of the world's biggest aerospace exhibition. You can find us at the Netherlands Pavilion, Hall 2B, Booth L8, L9 and L10.If you want to visit us at Le Bourget please contact Brijan Irion (b.irion@aels.nl). We are looking forward to seeing you all there.
Aircraft Technology Engineering and Maintenance Aircraft Technology Engineering and Maintenance (ATE&M), one of the leading magazines on aircraft MRO, published an article on aircraft dismantling and recycling in the April-May issue.
Certified apprenticeship employer
AELS has become a certified apprenticeship employer. AELS received this certification after achieving a positive result of an audit by Kenteq. The audit by this Dutch organization is focused on capabilities, knowledge, manpower and structure of the company. AELS is proud to have passed the audit successfully. With this certification AELS can offer students an apprenticeship which is required to become an official certified aerospace engineer. The disassembly and dismantling of aircraft is a great school of learning for these students. NECTAR Conference
This month a paper titled: Extended Producer Responsibility in the Aviation Sector was submitted for the NECTAR conference. The conference is the major international event of NECTAR (Network on European Communication and Transportation Activities Research) held in Portugal on May 9-12, 2007. During this conference also a presentation will be given on the subject. The paper is the result of the research in this matter between the Erasmus University Delft, University of Technology and AELS.In this paper the recent initiatives with respect to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in the aviation sector were researched and compared with the current practices regarding end-of-life management in the automotive and shipping industry. With this paper the issue of current aircraft-end-of-life management will be brought to the attention of all participants to the conference and by discussing the matter AELS aims to stimulate further research initiatives. A co-writer of this paper is Brijan Irion, a Master student from the Erasmus University Rotterdam who is currently active within AELS with a study on the possible impacts of the anticipated introduction of EPR on current (commercial) end-of-life aircraft management activities in the aviation industry. The other co-writers of the paper are Dr. Erwin van der Laan (Erasmus University Rotterdam - RSM (Rotterdam School of Management)) and Dr. Marisa de Brito (Delft University of Technology – OTB Research Institute) both involved in the AELS research on EPR in the aviation industry. |
