February 2008
Dear Reader,
The New Year has started successfully for AELS. By purchasing software to support our Q&A we made some steps in our continuous search towards improvements. We organized a mini-symposium in cooperation with the TU Delft, which has even drawn interested people from outside the Netherlands. Next to this we officially launched our new Quick Scan. You can read more about these subjects in this newsletter.
Best regards,
The AELS Team
New Quick Scan
During the Aircraft Commerce 5th Annual Operating Leasing Conference and the Aviation Industry Group 3RD Annual Airline Engineering & Maintenance Conference for the Indian Sub-Continent AELS launched its new quick scan. The old quick scan has been replaced by a free scan. This scan assists aircraft owners with the decision whether or not they should look at the end-of-life value of a specific aircraft. AELS introduced two new indicators; retireability and disassembleability, these two combined give the End-of-Life Status (ELS) of an aircraft. If you are interested you can order this new quick scan for free on our website.
The quick scan is the first step in every end-of-life analysis. When this quick scan shows that the aircraft is a potential dissasembly candidate the AELS' end-of-life decision tool will provide the more detailed information to make a balanced decision. End-of-life mini symposium
On the 4th of February the Delft University of Technology organized a mini symposium: "Creating sustainability by closing the supply chain loop in the aviation sector." This symposium was organized in cooperation with AELS. After a few presentations a workshop was held in which the visitors discussed specific subjects. The discussions were on responsibility of correct end-of-life handling, influences of corporate social responsibility on the end-of-life decision and the effect of end-of-life on the sustainability of the aviation sector. The symposium was visited by people from different countries and with different backgrounds. There were representatives from OEMs, Airlines, MRO parties, legislators and people with general interest in the subject. The presentations of the day, given by the Erasmus University (Dr. Erwin van der Laan) and given by AELS (Derk-Jan van Heerden, MSc), can be downloaded from the AELS website.
New Q&A software
A new step has been made to satisfy AELS' continuous search for improvement of our processes. AELS has chosen the software BPM Suite by Pallas Athena to support the quality and assurance (Q&A) department. With this program AELS is able to give more insight into its processes and develop an even more efficient total end-of-life solution. A self-learning environment will be created which will improve our performances on quality, costs and environment.
Auto Recycling News

In the January number of the quarterly magazine made by and for the Dutch car recycling industry an article was written about AELS and aircraft disassembly and dismantling. The Dutch car recycling industry works together under the name Auto Recycling Nederland (ARN, Car Recycling Netherlands). The article can be downloaded from our website.
