A340 dismantled for Magellan Group

Airbus A340

In September we have disassembled and dismantled an Airbus A340 for the Magellan Group. This project was executed at Barajas airport in Madrid. The interesting difference was that this aircraft had a lot of carbon fiber. The waste stream containing carbon fiber has been sampled so we can prepare for future projects that will contain more and more carbon. The cockpit was removed to be converted into a simulator.

Some interesting facts about this project:

  • 1741 components were removed
  • 6 trucks were needed to transport these components
  • Another 3 trucks to transport the engines
  • 1 bird's nest containing three eggs was safely removed from one aircraft
  • 65 boxes of aircraft records were required to recertify the usable components
  • all of this in 55 days

YouTube channel

AELS Youtube preview

In our projects we encounter a lot of interesting things. Where we are using photos on our website and on twitter, we have now started uploading videos at YouTube as well. The first video is about how aircraft life vests work and why you should not inflate them while you're still in the aircraft! Make sure you subscribe to our channel in order to stay up-to-date with our latest videos!

New employee: Patrik Huiberts

From September on, Patrik Huiberts has started working for AELS. He has extensive experience in aircraft maintenance and worked at KLM E&M, Nayak and Fokker. He is a welcome addition to the team!

Aircraft interior recycling

Aircraft Interiors Internationalwrote an article about aircraft interior recycling. Every aircraft contains about 5-10 tons of interior that is currently only suitable for landfill. Derk-Jan van Heerden from AELS talks about the re-use and recycling of interiors.
The article is available for download at our website or you can read the entire magazine on the website of the publisher.
